Infantry Regiments in Indian Army
- As our Indian Army is the largest so it comprises of many departments in which it is classified with their specified task.
- Today I will share the knowledge about the fighting department of Indian army which goes for the ground fights, so-called infantry department.
- As in the army, we have regiments, so for those ground fights, we have special regiments known as Infantry regiments.
- Since the time of its formation, the Indian Army has inherited the British organizational structure. So it still maintains the tradition of division of its infantry based on certain criteria like region, ethnicity, etc.
- In the Indian army, we have a total of 25 Infantry Regiments, which are as follows:
1. The Brigade of guards
Centre: Kamptee,( Maharashtra)

2. Mechanized Infantry Regiment
Centre: Ahmednagar, (Maharashtra)
Motto: Valor and Faith
3. Madras Regiment
Centre: Wellington, (Tamil Nadu)
Motto: Swadharme Nidhanam Shreyaha (It is a glory to die doing one’s duty)
4. Rajputana Rifles
Centre: Delhi Cantt.
Motto: The Brave Shall Inherit the Earth
5. Rajput Regiment
Centre: Fatehgarh, Uttar Pradesh
Motto: Sarvatra Vijay (Victory Everywhere)
6. Dogra Regiment
Centre: Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh
Motto: Kartavyam Anvatma (Duty Before Death)
7. Sikh Regiment
Centre: Ramgarh Cantt. (Jharkhand)
Motto: Nischay Kar Apni Jeet Karon (With determination, I will be triumphant)
8. Jatt Regiment
Centre: Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh
Motto: Sangathan Va Veerta (Unity And Valour)
9. Parachute Regiment
Centre: Bengaluru, Karnataka
Motto: Shatrujeet (The Conqueror)
10. Punjab Regiment
Centre: Ramgarh Cantonment, Jharkhand
Motto: Khushki wa Tari/Sthal Wa Jal (By Land and Sea)
11. The Grenadiers

12. Sikh Light Infantry

14. The Garhwal Rifles

15. Kumaon Regiment
